Signs of the Second Coming

Signs of the Second Coming is a four-track spectrum of soulful Americana tunes. It is the debut of husband & wife duo, JoClair, a Folk-Pop & Rock duo in Nashville, TN.

SIGNS OF THE SECOND COMING

“We recorded most of it in an A-Frame during the summer of 2020. It felt like the world was ending, and we’d written these songs that sounded like the church music we grew up with—Alt-Country, Gospel, Blues-Rock, Indie/Christian Pop. And they’re all about losing who you used to be and learning to love and celebrate who you become. We wanted the record feel like a tent revival, like a ‘come one, come all’ invitation to join in and sing and lay your burdens down.”

“Spirit Roll” kicks things off with a Folksy, feel-good romp about the trials and triumphs of self-reinvention. Upright piano and bass generate a steady, uplifting current, allowing for the sneakily insightful lyrics to shine. Vocalists, Joe and Kelsey Ford, carry the tune in perfect harmony, reinforcing the song’s hopeful message of acceptance and reclamation.

“Born in the Water” takes a more introspective turn, playing out as this Indie-Gospel prayer for true identity and a sense of place. Kelsey’s voice, captivating enough on its own, combines with the poetic lyrics and atmospheric arrangement to create an “unsettlingly beautiful” piece of music you’ll have a hard time “just putting on…in the background” (EarToTheGround Music).

“Beat-up Car” feels like the EP’s edgy outlier—in a great way. It’s a Folk-Rock slow-burn with no apologies, blending raw vocals with groovy keys and piercing electric guitar. The pseudo-Biblical lyrics ring out like a joyous cry for help. Everything about this song shouts, “Hell yes, I am.”

“Said It All” brings it home with a heartfelt Indie-Pop duet about saying goodbye. The story is told from the perspective of two ex-lovers, but hearing a real-life couple sing it brings an air of hopefulness to the song. Throw in some rich piano and glittering guitar and you have something that sounds like a starlit sky—somehow lonely, beautiful, and life-affirming all at the same time.
